My first impressions of Sopot Autonomus Schools

When I first saw the school I thought it was quite strange. It was very small compared to schools I had attended back in New Zealand. It was small in both layout and student size, most schools I had attended were spread out buildings usually only one story high. And the student body usually numbered more than a thousand. So it was quite a shock to see this school that had so many stories and so few students.

But as I spent more time here I realised that it was a great school. It was easy to navigate, and the small student body meant that I got to know the students better. The time table took a while to get used to, along with the lack of bells, but once again, as soon as I was familiar with the system it all made sense. The students and teachers were very welcoming, greeting me in the halls and making sure I always knew where I was going and what I was doing. I soon felt like I was a part of the school and it was a lovely atmosphere. I like the smaller class sizes, it seemed like the kids could get more time and attention from the teachers and myself, allowing them to learn more, quicker.

Although it was hard having everyone speak Polish at first, I soon realised that everyone spoke some English and people would make the effort to greet me in English, although I did begin to pick up some Polish words and greetings.

Overall my first experiences of Sopot Autonomus School were surprising, but good. I am glad to have worked at this great school and to have met its staff and students. I look foward to the rest of my time here as I know it will be a good time.
